Buses to and from Melbourne Airport (MEL)

Melbourne Airport has a bus network connecting the airport with various locations in and around Melbourne. The Skybus, operated by SkyBus Australia, is the most popular public transport option for travelers to and from the airport.

It operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week between Melbourne CBD (Central Business District) and Southern Cross Station.

SkyBus

For $19.95 one-way or $32 round-trip, SkyBus provides express service between Melbourne Airport and Melbourne CBD (Southern Cross Station) seven days a week, from 4am to 1am.

Timetables and prices for the SkyBus service, which makes stops at Terminals 1, 3, and 4, can be found on the company's website.

Melbourne City Express timetable:

  • 15 min service frequency – 04:00 to 08:45
  • 10 min service frequency – 08:45 to 17:45
  • 15 min service frequency – 17:45 to 01:00

SkyBus is reintroducing the Peninsula Express service, which connects Melbourne Airport with St. Kilda, Frankston, and other bayside communities regularly and consistently. In honor of the reopening, SkyBus is offering first-month discounts on rates to all stops, beginning at just $15 one way.

In addition to serving the parking lots near Terminals 1-3, the forecourt also serves as a pick-up and drop-off location for private shuttles that travel to and from the neighboring off-airport lots.

From the Terminal 4 Ground Transport Hub, PTV (Public Transport Victoria) runs five scheduled routes (Below the Terminal car park at Terminal 4).

The pick-up and drop-off lanes for Terminal 4 will temporarily be located on the roads for Terminals 1, 2, and 3.

Many direct, regional, and charter buses travel to and from Melbourne Airport. The place they pick you up and drop you off depends on the service you order. Contact the bus company for more details.

Drop-offs and pick-ups for Terminal 4 will take place in the lanes designated for Terminals 1, 2, and 3 until further notice.

Metropolitan and Regional Buses

There are also public buses that travel to or through the airport from the city and surrounding areas. Through the route 59 tram terminal, routes 478, 479, and 482 reach Westfield Airport West.

The 479 bus stops at Sunbury station, which links up with trains on the Sunbury and Bendigo lines.

SmartBus service along Route 901 was offered as a more frequent option for those taking the bus.

Broadmeadows (Craigieburn, Seymour, Shepparton, and Albury lines), Epping (Mernda line), Greensborough (Hurstbridge line), and Blackburn are all train stops accessible by Route 901. (Belgrave and Lilydale lines).

There are regularly scheduled V/Line regional coach services to Barham and Deniliquin from the airport.

Services to Ballarat, Bendigo, Dandenong, Frankston, Mornington Peninsula, Geelong, the Melbourne suburbs, Shepparton, and the Riverina are provided by nine other bus companies that operate out of the airport.
